So our medical saga is apparently never-ending....
On Monday evening, we had meatballs for supper. While eating his first bite of food, Vol Fan successfully lodged a meatball in his throat. He is pretty good at doing this - as was his father and his grandmother. The food is lodged far enough down as to not obstruct the airway but nothing can get by it. In the past, he has always been able to get the food to continue on its way by changing positions, sipping water, jumping jacks, etc. Or he can get the food to move the other way....
Anyway, he is able to get it to move. Eventually.
Last night, he was not able to get it to move. We are not ones to run to the ER when the problem is not life threatening. We waited for our doctor's office to open Tuesday morning and met him at the door. He said he did not have the type of equipment needed to remove the obstruction and sent us to the hospital.
Thirty minutes after arriving at the ER, Vol Fan was being wheeled back to the OR. He would have to have general anesthesia to perform the meatball-ectomy.
Thankfully, the meatball-ectomy was successful. Vol Fan is home. He is going to have a sore throat for a little while.
And he is already getting really, really tired of being told to chew his food!

Good. Grief. Happy Thanksgiving??
Oh no! that sounds miserable. Who knew meatballs could cause so much trouble.
I'm very excited about your suggestion of an Elvis Chia Head. That would be so.totally.awesome.
Oh. My. God. You know, it really does pour when it rains. Things have been like that around here too, which is really cutting into my happy time, LOL!
So, Vol Fan is being told to chew his food & I'm being told I can't chew food. What's wrong with this picture?
I'm so hungry right now I could scream but I'm sick of mashed potatoes & gravy, potato soup, shakes, and yogurt. I can't believe I just said that. Maybe I'll splurge & have re-fried beans tonight, LOL!
And seriously, Vol Fan... CHEW YOUR FOOD because the alternative sucks.
You two are going to earn honorary medical degrees for the time you're spending in hospitals!
Here's to an uneventful Christmas season!
Surely you have your own parking spot at this medical office???
Glad all is well....apparently skinny throats run in the family!!
Oh man, that really sucks!
Oh my gosh. CRAZINESS!
