It doesn't take much to bring out my love of the water. The call of a seagull, the crash of the waves on the beach, the clang of a ship's bell, the smell of salt in the air - all of this brings my love of the water to the forefront of my mind.
I can envision myself relaxing aboard a beautiful sailboat that is anchored in some known-only-to-me cove in the Caribbean or the South Pacific. The morning dawning bright and clear. The perfect cup of coffee beside me as I drink in the beauty that surrounds me.
What's wrong with this picture? Well nothing aside from the fact that I don't like getting up early and I don't like coffee and I don't know the first thing about sailing. And a lack of cash.
I can also envision myself living in a low-slung house in a grove of trees that overlooks a beautiful beach. It has floor-to-ceiling windows that all open to let the tropical breezes flow through. It has a huge wrap-around porch and working shutters. All the wood (furniture, floors, etc) is dark mahogany. All the windows have light, wispy drapes that flutter on the breeze. (Sidebar: In this vision, Vol Fan is a dangerous-looking pirate captain!!)
What's wrong with this picture? Well, nothing. Other than a lack of cash.
So how do people afford these things? Do they work hard all their lives, scrimping and saving to be able to make this dream come true? Do they just pick up and go - hoping that just being near the sea will be enough to satisfy the craving? Or that being near the sea will cause something to click and the dream will be a reality? Are they just handed a great big inheritance?
Maybe these dreams are just that - dreams. Destined to reside only as images in my mind. Could the reality ever live up the the vision I have in my mind?

The reality could never live up to the vision. You haven't factored in all of the critters that would reside alongside you in your tropical paradise!!!
BTW - I may need a shower after reading about your dirty pirate fantasy!! hahaha!
The only thing missing from those photos is a Corona with a fresh lime wedge.
Yeah, one thing that I have learned after living in Florida is that I really, really don't like lizards!!
Sigh. I have similar dreams (altho I do like coffee and getting up early). I keep telling my husband, We've got to make a big change! But I don't know what it is. We work hard and are lucky to take fun vacations, but I do feel like we (and you!) deserve more.

I had that dream, too! But then I heard a loud cry from the kids who were trying to kill each other and my dream bubble was popped.
JD - What can we do to get a jump start on the "more" part?!?
MTM - Yeah, in my vision, I weigh about 50 pounds less and am about 6 inches taller so it's probably not exactly based in reality!!
