I don't know much but...

I do know enough to be scared as hell about our economy.

I don't know all the ins and outs but when gas is so expensive that people can hardly afford to drive to work. And that expensive gas causes the prices of everything else to go up. And the housing market is in shambles. As are the major players in the credit market. And the government just keeps doling out cash like there is no tomorrow. I know we are on very shaky ground.

I don't know the answer. I don't know that there is an answer. And I think that's what scares me the most.

My job is in the construction industry. So we are feeling things pretty intensely. Thank God I still have a job. Things could get so bad that we would be put out of business.

I try to not let myself think about these things but some days it just comes crashing in.

Is anyone else scared??

Terrified. The surveying industry is slow because of the construction industry...and the cycle continues.

We are seeing more and more small business owners close their doors. It's sickening. All we can do is tighten the purse strings and hold on for the ride. This too shall pass.

I'm in a new car dealership service dept. Things haven't been this bad since the mid '80's. At least some of the big banks say this coming 2 years ago and fixed their problems before the current Lehman etc. mess came about. The weak are folding up and the strong will maintain. No comfort to us right now, though.

Up at night terrified!

Im a residential architect...its the only thing Ive EVER done, its the only thing I am terribly qualified to do--and well, you can imagine what the market for us is like right now. Most of my clients are going to spend 1.5-4 million on their new home, so they arent affected as much by the foreclosures, etc. But they ARE affected by the stock market---Ive been in mourning all week.

I'm scared to death. I'm squirreling away as much money as I can. I've been putting money into stocks and bonds since I graduated from HS; my kids college funds are also in stocks. This was supposed to be my retirement, so I'm a little worried.

It's terrible, and it's like our government is treating this like it's just a phase not people's lives going to hell in a hand basket(what does that really mean?)
I own no stock, no home and have little debt so I am sure there are people that this affects a whole lot more.
