The first time I heard this was the first year that Vol Fan and I were married. She called to wish us a Happy New Year and asked what I was doing. I happened to be doing laundry.
She just about died! Was I crazy? Is that really what I wanted to be doing for the rest of the year?? Good thing I wasn't doing laundry while hung over!
Anyway, if what she says is true, this is going to be a banner year for me.
On New Year's Day, I did the following:
- I ate.
- I shopped.
- I ate again.
- I worked. (Because I would like to have a job in the upcoming year!)
- I ate again.
- I blogged while watching TV.
- I went to bed.
If the same holds true for Vol Fan, he is not going to have such a good year.
On New Year's Day, he did the following:
- He ate.
- He shopped.
- His back started to hurt.
- He ate again.
- His back started to really hurt.
- He realized that he had another kidney stone!!
- He passed what could be used as a decorative boulder.
- He realized that it was not alone.
And he has been on a nice little cocktail of pain meds ever since. Hopefully, it will pass soon. Poor Vol Fan!

Boy, if that is true then I am in deep trouble, cuz all I did was sit on my rear and watch movies all day.
It's gonna be a great year for me then if working your ass off all day "undecorating" counts for anything. I also ate, napped, and tossed back a few!
Yipes---if that is true, here's what I'll do for the rest of the year:
-Sleep late
-Computer work
-ATE
-Computer time
-Football
-More Computer time
-More Football
-Oh Yeah--more FOOD!!!!
Etc.Etc.ETc.
Talk about LAZY!!!! I was so lazy on Jan.1st. Is that a sign???? Yow!!!

Poor Vol Fan! My B-I-L has the horrible kidney stones & says he thinks it must be like giving birth to a child. With all his pain I just said Uh-Huh.
It sounds like you'll have a great year if all goes according to Vol Fan's mother, lol.
I like to think New Year's is just the warm up to the new year--hope Vol Fan feels better soon!
Oh how I wish I knew this before this year's New Year's Day. But I think that it is in your mind, so in my mind on New Year's Day I was dining out with a man who thinks the world of me and shows it, my daughters decided to start a new tradition and bought me New Year's gifts, and I got an email from a newspaper editor that she would like me to start writing for them--for money. Yes, this looks to be a wonderful year.
Hope your husband is feeling better.
Poor Vol. Fan! Tough way to start the year!
I'm trying to remember what I did New Year's Day....seems to me that I did laundry...Bummer!
well, if this is true I will be cleaning flies off the church windowsills, fonduing, surrounded by family and of course doing laundry. I suppose I can live with this!
I had to work (on my day off). Does that mean I have job security?
Woody, what is a bike trainer? Is it an attachment to your regular bike so you ride indoors? Post a picture so I can be jealous of your new toy I mean exercise equipment.
I took down all my Christmas stuff and it pretty much all fin in two rubbermaid bins...that's everything, tree, wreath, garland, outdoor lights, ornaments, candle holders and other misc stuff.
I can almost feel Vol Fan's pain...ugh. Poor guy.
Let's hope your MIL's theory doesn't hold water this year.
if that were true, I would have spent the last ten years with a hangover.
Poor Vol Fan...I can sympathize with him. Has he had a kidney scan done? How many of the little boogers are in there? Didnt he give birth to a dozen just a month or so ago?
Oh my gosh...I am DOOMED. DOOMED I SAY!!!
I was hung over, slept till 11:00, blogged, ate, sat on the couch, ate, blogged, went to bed.
crap. I wish I had know this little bit of information before!!!!
I hope Vol is better....really, that must be painfuuuullllll.
I hope your husband is feeling much better now. I had never heard that saying before about New years day...for me it was putting the peices of my family back together after our previous week and doing pretty much what I do every day...cleaning, cooking, laundry, chasing children...I guess this is my life...lol!
Well, all I can say is, thank heavens that our New Year's Day was a bright-ish spot in our gloom! Yes, we were grieving, and yes, this virus was digging in its claws and getting down to business, and yes, I was still in the sling, but my son and his girlfriend came to cook for us, I spent the day being waited on, and the youngsters were so sweet and funny, that I laughed in spite of everything.
Poor Vol Fan .. I don't have kidney stones myself, but I know how painful they are. My (other) son once rang me in fright because of how bad his house-mate looked. We thought it might be appendicitis and he got him to hospital ... turned out to be kidney stones. I hope Vol Fan's pass quickly!
VERY cool blog, Lori. Mine is hidden. If you give me an email addy, I'll send you an invite.
