Follow Me Down This Road

The 2008 Edition of America's Health Rankings shows the ranking of the average health of each state's citizens. Starting at the botton:
  • #50 - Louisiana
  • #49 - Mississippi
  • #48 - South Carolina
  • #47 - Tennessee
  • #46 - Texas
  • #45 - Florida
  • #44 & #43 - Oklahoma and Arkansas, tied
  • #42 - Nevada
  • #41 - Georgia
  • #40 - Alabama
  • #39 - West Virginia
  • #38 - Missouri
  • #37 - Kentucky
  • #36 - North Carolina
On August 17, 2009, Forbes printed an article about which states use the most prescription medication. West Virginia used the most, followed closely by Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Missouri.
A new report in July of this year by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation listed Mississippi as the fattest state. Followed by Alabama, West Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Louisiana.
Are you seeing the trend here?
Now look at the latest, greatest map of H1N1 or Swine flu activity.

Do you see the trend? In the South, we love our home-cooking. We love things deep fried, slathered in butter, or with bacon. 'Cuz bacon makes anything better;)
But it is killing us. Not only are we heart conditions and strokes just waiting to happen, we have weakened our immune systems too.
It is time to get our lazy asses up off of the couch and move. It is time to relearn to love all those fresh vegetables that we grow in our gardens. Without having to deep fry them! It is time!!
Yes, Woody - I mean you, too!!

I hear you Woody! Deep in the heart of North Carolina I love my barbecue and hush puppies. Now that the summer heat is subsiding, I'm getting outside - walking or riding. I'm not wasting this beautiful fall weather.

Wow. I wish I had read this an hour ago. Before the bacon and eggs.

True True True.... NOW--- after reading it, can we DO it????? I can write about all kinds of stuff --but DOING it is something else entirely. I do try though---and am much better now than I used to be.... BUT--there's always room for improvement.

Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy

Seriously...I have to rethink my eating habits. That will be after I finish my coffee ice cream. For real.

Interesting. I've read statistics before that support this view; that places where the consumption of vegetables and fruit are closely related to health, for instance, with the least consumed equalling the highest incidence of disease. We do need to take notice, for sure!

Eye opening stats that need to be paid attention too!
