Colorado and Beyond

After a good night's sleep, we were back on the road.  Excited to be heading into the Rocky Mountains.  Wow, Colorado is a gorgeous state!
We exited I-70 to take "the scenic route" thru Aspen and Leadville.  We had driven about 1.5 hours when we encountered a gate.  A gate that closed the road!  Someone forgot to tell this Southern girl that late May in the mountains is still winter.  Who knew?  So we turned around and backtracked to Interstate 70, continuing on to Grand Junction.

We stopped at Grand Junction for the night, camping at a KOA.  As we were trying to set up camp, the winds were gusting to 40 mph.  And yes, we were in a tent.  And yes, high winds = one snapped tent pole!  Thank heaven for duct tape!  After 3 days of driving and battling the wind, we were shot and headed to bed before dark.

The next morning we visited Colorado National Monument.  It is gorgeous!  Do you see the people on top of the rock spire in the bottom photo?!?
And then it was on to Moab, Utah.

Wow...that is gorgeous scenery.
I can see how this trip was both exciting and exhausting for you both. But I know you live for that kind of stuff!

How gorgeous, Woody.... I'm a little envious --of all of the traveling you two have gotten to do... Can't wait to hear more and more and more.
Hugs,
Betsy

I wish that I'd known you were going up to Colorado, I could have given you some tips. It is gorgeous, isn't it? And it's always windy in Spring. I once saw it snow in the 2nd week of June in Aspen.
