Headin' West

Early in the morning, I picked up Blazer and her two children, Oboe and Giggles.  We got on the interstate and headed west.  No worries about getting lost - we would be on Interstate 40 West for days.  Seriously, days!
Your friendly driver.
And your friendly riders :)
After getting our selves settled in, we played a rousing game of grocery store and before we knew it, we were crossing the Mississippi.  And headed into one serious thunderstorm.  In the middle of road construction!  But soon enough, we made it out.
And then we were at our first stop, Little Rock Central High School National Memorial.  Ever heard of the Little Rock Nine?  From your history lessons?  Civil Rights?  Desegregation?  Ringing any bells?
These nine students faced down anger and hatred and death threats (and the Arkansas National Guard!) just to go to school.  Wow!  Historic sites can be dry as dust but this place even peaked the interests of Oboe and Giggles - had them asking questions.  I love places that can engage young minds!
And then we were back on the road!  We made it to Russellville, Arkansas before stopping for the night.  487 miles closer to the west coast.  We had a great dinner at The Dixie Cafe and then burned off some energy at the pool.  A little horsing around then journaling before crashing!!

Wow---you made it a LONG way in one day... BUT-with that long trip ahead of you, I'm sure you have to drive a long way each day....

Russellville, Arkansas is very near our favorite little mountain in the world, Mt. Nebo... I would live there ALL of the time IF I could...

I do remember the Little Rock Nine.....

Be careful---and have a great trip.
Hugs,
Betsy

Another great trip & your crew looks like fun too!

The thought of that day back in 1957 still gives me chills up my spine. It's good to see that we've come so far since then. Basic human rights is all they were asking for and ended up with so much more in the long run.

Ignorance is the root of all evil...
