Channeling Dr. Quinn

Or John Wayne.  Or Festus....

Last weekend I hauled Vol Fan on another adventure.  We went exploring in the Santa Monica mountains, which are just inland from Malibu.  They are famous among bikers and sports car drivers for the Mulholland Highway (not to be confused with the LA end called Mulholland Drive).  Especially the section called "The Snake".

Too bad I didn't know this before we went or we would have stopped and tried to get some photos.  This is the kind of riding that we saw (Yep, swiped this pic from the internets).  Sorry, bikers, for my slow tourist speed!
We stumbled across Cornell (more of a crossroads than a town) and fell in love with the atmosphere.  Just a small diner and a winery!  But a great place to stop and explore.
But this was not the purpose of our trip.  The purpose was a visit to Paramount Ranch.  In the 1920s, Paramount Studios acquired this land to use for large-scale sets.  Countless films and television shows were filmed here.  Things like Gunfight at the OK Corral, The Streets of Laredo, Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, The Rifleman, and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.  A portion of the western set remains and is great fun to explore.
It is a great place for a picnic followed by a showdown...

Neat Woody..... You two are obviously having a wonderful time exploring that part of CA. I would love to see that old cowboy studio/set..... I watched most of those shows at one time or another.... Your pictures look familiar.... I was waiting on a cowboy to ride through that old 'town' on his horse!!!!

Hugs,
Betsy
