We had been told not to expect much, that it was too late in the season to see many whales. Apparently, the whales wanted to see us just as much as we wanted to see them. We saw more whales on our trip than all the other trips for the previous month. Combined!
We saw California Sea Lions.
And Pacific White-Sided Dolphin. And Risso's Dolphin. And Humpback Whales - which put on quite a show for us.
But the Blue Whales were the highlight of the day. There were times that they surfaced so close to the boat that you could hear them exhale. And it is a MIGHTY exhale - a sound I will never forget.
Being in such close proximity to these magnificent creatures was oddly emotional for me, like my first glimpse of the Grand Canyon. This felt like a very spiritual encounter.
A day I will never forget.

SO happy and excited for you (with a tad bit of envy)! This is one of the top 5 things to do from my bucket list.
Miss you!
This is a dream for me!
I would have cried!
Oh how I would LOVE to do that... You obviously picked a perfect day to do it.... WOW---I'm so impressed. When my son was in Alaska, he saw Orcas and Humpbacks--but not the Blue Whales.
Again, I am totally jealous!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
