El Matador Beach

The beach that I encountered those 'wild animals' yesterday is located in Malibu.  It is a beautiful beach called El Matador.  (Just a couple of houses north from Herb Alpert's home.  And probably some other famous people but his was the only close address I saw in my Google search.)

You have to park at the top of a cliff and then follow the trail to a BUNCH of stairs to reach the shoreline.  This is the view from the trail.
The cliff face is full of sea caves which sent my imagination down the path of pirates and hidden treasure.  The beach is littered with rock in all shapes and sizes.  Many have eroded into rock arches.
Since I was there at low tide, I was able to see some of the colonies of coral that were growing in the ocean.  And tons of blue mussels covering many of the rocks.
I also happened upon a topless photo shoot.  I think it might have been a nude photo shoot if I had not been on the beach.  Sorry, porn lovers!

And then I took about 50 million pictures trying to get a wave-crashing-on-rock photograph.  It is harder than it seems to catch that moment.  Sometimes you just miss it.  Sometimes the wave fizzles.  Sometimes it crashes on this rock when you were focused on that rock.  But sometimes it works.

Such beauty. I am green with envy. I cannot even imagine walking along all of this. Someday. :)

I love Matador Beach and your pictures are stunning! Congrats on getting the *money shot* of the crashing waves!

Herb Alpert also has a Jazz/Dinner Club in L.A. but now I can't remember the name of it since no one wanted to go there with me. (wah!)

Fabulous pictures, Woody.... That is a gorgeous beach for sure---and the beaches out there are SO different from the beaches on the East Coast, aren't they????

Love the caves, the mussels and the coral.... You got great photos... Glad you got a great shot of the waves crashing on that rock.
Hugs,
Betsy

Oh, the Califoria coast...so different than our familiar Gulf of Mexico.

Unusual creatures, different smell and that water is SO cold!
