Home

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  ~Mark Twain

Yesterday, I posted this as my status on Facebook.  I had been reading this blog for most of the afternoon.  And it had my wheels turning.

In April of 2009, this couple began an adventure.  An adventure that had no timeline, no ending date.  They sold most of their belongings and took off on their bikes.  Riding in what direction whim would take them.  It sounds so very exciting.  The freedom to come.  To go.  To turn left, just because it looked like a good road.

I have often thought about doing the same thing but by RV rather than bike.  (Hey, I like a bathroom!!  And while I like to tent camp, the thought of doing it night after night after night....would send me to the looney bin!)  Some may say that we are already doing this, sort of.  We are on the road for months and months at a time.  But the location is not our whim, it is the job's whim.  Therein, lies the difference.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized something.

I like having a place to call home.  I like knowing that my house and comfy bed are waiting for me.  I like having a permanent place that I can return to, again and again.  I like having friends that will let me pop back into the fabric of their lives like I was never gone.

Maybe I'm not as much of a nomad as I thought...

I have that same quote on my blog. I did go check out this blog and it looks fascinating to me so I will be going and checking it out when I have more time. I love the idea of adventures and honestly would like to have a least some adventures in my life. :) But, I am kind of a homebody and love my home. I love cooking and baking in my home...I thoroughly enjoy making it a home. So as much as going on the road like this looks like fun and quite the adventure I likely would miss my home too much. Thanks for sharing this though cause it will be fun to read along.

Hope your having a good Monday. XX

I think it is ok for you to have a little bit of both in you...a homebody nomad. :)
I love home too.

Being a nomad has never held a fascination for me. I like being in my own bed at night. Now, I'm getting so old, my bones and muscles wouldn't let me do it!

I would love to do what you are doing, but I truly need a nest.

A place for my things and somewhere to hide from the world from time to time.

Hi Woody, I think you have the best of all worlds... You have a HOME ---but you also get to check out many other parts of the world (even if it is because of the job). I think that is pretty darn special...

George and I are talking about taking a couple of months on an extended trip in 2012.. That would be a BIGGIE for us...

Have a great week.
Hugs,
Betsy
