Perspective

I have had an awful lot on my mind lately.  But after Vol Fan's conversation with his Mom last night, my perspective has changed.

The things on my mind are pretty big things:
  • My health - I have been having some issues of the girly nature.  They are bothersome and will require surgery but solvable.
  • Work - The company Vol Fan works for is heading rapidly toward bankruptcy.  There is nothing we can do about it.  And I know we will be fine.  Vol Fan will find another job.  We have savings to tide us over until he does.  But still it is a worrisome situation.
And then Vol Fan talked with his Mom and the things on her mind are HUGE things:
  • Vol Fan's nephew has been dealing with drug/alcohol addiction for several years.  It is now to the point that he stole (and hocked) a gun from his Mamaw.  He has taken this to a whole other level.  No one can help him.  Only he can help himself.  It is a hard step to take to tell someone that you love dearly that if you are hungry, I will feed you.  If you are truly ready to change, I will help you.  But otherwise, stay away.
  • Vol Fan's 28yo cousin was diagnosed with cancer of the liver.  He had skin cancer several years ago.  They are now trying to determine if the cancer in his liver is operable.  And if it has spread to other areas as well.
  • Another of Vol Fan's cousins has 16yo twin daughters.  One of them has been speeding toward self destruction for several years - expulsion from several schools, trouble with the law, drugs, alcohol, etc.  Two weeks ago, she cut the monitoring anklet and hasn't been seen since.  There are a whole LOT of dangerous situations a 16yo troubled girl can get herself in.
  • And for a little icing on the cake, Vol Fan's Mom found out that her boxer has a disease that isn't treatable.  She must put him down to keep him from suffering.
My worry over money and a little day surgery is silly.  Please pray/light a candle/send good vibes - whatever...that these many situations will come to a good resolution.  And for Vol Fan's Mom to have a little peace of mind.

I am so sorry to hear it all. My thoughts are with you and your family... for both the HUGE things and the big things. No matter what it is, it is hard to deal with it while you are going through it.
