Let's Make A Night Of It

Since I was scheduled to be at the hospital in Nashville at 5:30am the morning of my surgery,  Vol Fan and I decided against making the 1+ drive to Nashville in the wee hours of the morning.  We decided to make a night of it!
After checking into our hotel room, we took the shuttle to downtown Nashville.  Broadway and 2nd Avenue.  Tourist central!  Restaurants and bars with live music line each side of the street.  We have spent time there on prior occasions and it is always fun.  Vol Fan decided to pull the cork from this jug with his teeth:)
We wandered up and down the street - finally landing at The Wheel for a beer.  The music was one guy singing older western/cowboy type songs.  And then it was time to move on.  Our next stop was at The Stage, which is always one of our favorite stops.  Their bands always play typical honky-tonk music and are always fun.  For dinner, we decided to try a barbeque place, Jack's.  It has a reputation for being really good.  Maybe we were there on a bad day because it was certainly nothing to write home about!!
After dinner, it was time for the main attraction.  The Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium!  I had been to the Opry at the Ryman when I was about 7.  All I remember is Minnie Pearl:)  While the new auditorium may have more comfortable seating, I think the Opry is best at the Ryman.  It is classic!
We were treated to performances by Jeannie Seeley, Eden's Edge, Little Jimmy Dickens (which definitely gave me an idea for next year's Halloween costume!!), Phil Vassar, Riders In The Sky, Rodney Atkins, and Rascal Flatts!

Our seats were in the balcony but as you can see, they were fantastic!  Really the only bad seats are the ones on the floor that are behind the support poles for the balcony.  Guess who got that seat when she was 7?!?

It was a fantastic night!  If you are ever in Nashville, The Grand Ole Opry should definitely be on your list of things to do!

We've been to the Opry a couple of times, but never at the Ryman. We saw many of the same acts that you saw, but we have never seen Rascal Flatts. My daughter was in Nashville for the CMA awards and she ate at Jack's. She said it was fantastic.

Hi Woody, As George said, we have never been to the Ryman. I hope to do that someday.

So glad you had a night on the town before your surgery... That was a great idea.
Hugs,
Betsy
