Saturday Exploring

Vol Fan was free on Saturday.  It was sunny and pushing 90* (which in this part of the country means a pretty comfortable 80*ish feel because of the wind) so we decided to get out.  We decided to go to the Abilene Zoo for the afternoon.  But as we pulled into the parking lot, we could see that the whole population of Abilene had decided that it was a perfect zoo day as well.  We opted to go on a little less crowded day.

I had read about an event going on at the Taylor County Expo Center across the street from the zoo.  We decided to check that out instead.  And we were certainly glad we did.

It was a local team roping competition.  The first rider ropes the calf's head and then the second rider attempts to rope both back feet.  Some were successful.  Others not so much.

Such a fun afternoon!

Being from Texas, I am surprised you haven't been to more calf roping shows!!! Late visit from a sky watch Friday Fan!!

Looks like a great day, Woody... Even though we have a nice spring-like weekend here, it's not as WARM as it is where you all are. Enjoy your time in Abilene.
Hugs,
Betsy

I think I would have preferred the roping competition to a crowded zoo as well. I like your pictures.
