Cold Weather Fun

Rather than be bothered by the extremely cold temperatures, Vol Fan and I decided to embrace it with some fun experiments.

Making ice 'marbles' - We put some food coloring in balloons then filled the balloons with water.  We put them outside and waited for them to freeze.  It took a lot longer for them to freeze solid than we imagined.  But once they did, they were pretty cool!

Watching bubbles freeze - This one took a little work.  The first day of the extremely cold temps was really windy.  Even in the somewhat protected area of our porch, the wind was just too much and immediately blew the bubbles away.  The second day was calmer but the wind still made it tough.  I ended up blowing and catching the bubbles on my wand while inside the house.  Then carrying it outside.  It was really, really cool to watch the ice to form on the bubbles!!

Once frozen, this is what it looks like when your bubble bursts!

Silly but fun!

Personally, my bubble bursts every single time it gets below freezing. I prefer the warmer weather. I like the ice marbles though...
