Happy Birthday to Me

Today is my birthday - 41st to be exact! What important events (other than my birth, of course!) have taken place on this day?

  • In 1970, Nixon signed legislation banning TV and radio ads for cigarettes and
  • AMC introduced the Gremlin.
  • In 1946, an Alaskan earthquake triggered a massive tsunami.
  • In 1945, US troops landed on Okinawa.

Ok, so historically speaking, April 1 probably isn't the most important of days. But there have been a lot of great pranks!

  • Sports Illustrated ran an article about a rookie pitcher that could throw a fastball over 168 mph
  • The planetary alignment of 1976 that was going to cause a decrease in earth's gravitational pull
  • BMW innovations, advertised in British newspapers every year, including: counterfeit BMWs (the blue/white parts on the logo were reversed), Satellite Hypersensitive Electromagnetic Foodration (which synchronized the car's GPS with home appliances so dinner was ready and waiting when you got home), BMW Instant Messaging (using Reactive User Sound Electronic particles to display the driver's words to the car in front on the windshield)
  • The staged fight between Tom Arnold and Michael Strahan on the Best Damn Sports Show Period - it fooled the other cast members enough that they stepped in to break them up with one of them even popping Tom Arnold a couple of times
  • Taco Bell announced that they were purchasing the Liberty Bell and renaming it the Taco Liberty Bell
  • Burger King advertised a "Left-Handed Whopper" - which scores of people actually came in and ordered
  • The BBC reported that Swiss farmers were experiencing a bumper crop of spaghetti, even showing footage of people harvesting the noodles from trees
  • My nephew, Soccer Boy, texting me this morning telling me that he had accidentally lost the checks that he was supposed to deposit in the bank - seeing as how I was just waking up and the only check that I could remember was one for a ..., well, for a LOT of money for work, I was in a panic!

So go ahead, people - pull those pranks! Send those that you love into a panic! Cause their hearts to skip a beat! Just don't have the little problem that Vol Fan has when he plays tricks on me - The pranker must ALWAYS remember to tell the prankee the truth!!!
