Let's Build

I am following in The Vinyl Villager's footsteps. Last week, he posted a Blogosphere Home Tour. And let me tell you, his home is beautiful!

But I thought I would put a little different spin on things. I am going to show you my future home. Welcome to my little slice of heaven!

Several years ago, Vol Fan and I purchased 8 acres of land just outside of my hometown in Tennessee with the intention of building a house within a couple of years. Our poor pond has since gone dry. Vol Fan is confident that he can repair it and we do have access to lots of equipment!
These pictures were taken on our first Christmas as land owners. The piles of brush were waiting to be burned after cleaning the fence row.

A year after we purchased the land, we built a garage for Vol Fan - a 50' x 50' garage to be exact!! At the time, he owned a landscape/lawn maintenance company. So the building was built with that in mind. We have since sold that company and Vol Fan is left with one sweet garage!
Vol Fan doesn't like to be in debt. No, I mean he REALLY doesn't like to be in debt. When we purchased the land and then built the garage, we lived like paupers. We had everything paid off within 3 years. Now we're talking about 100K in debt. At the time, we were lucky to make $50,000 per year. So you do the math.

We still haven't built the house yet but I have plans. This is the house that we plan to build with a few modifications.
Since we are now on the road for the majority of the time, I am pretty OK with the too-small-rooms and the powder-blue-tile bathroom and the laminate-fronted-cabinets in our rented 60s rancher.

Now I said Pretty OK. Not Happy. Not Satisfied. But pretty OK and as I watch our savings grow, I know that my house is just around the corner!

Right, Vol Fan? It's just around the corner, right??

What a great goal. The land looks lovely and I love the house plan. Just perfect. I could move in in a heartbeat.
I hope it is around the corner....

What a wonderful dream to look forward to! I like the house plan--will you get to take over the little garage?

Yay!! Someone actually bit the bullet and did my home tour! Love your property! Id kill for some acreage.

And thanks for the compliments on my house. It's nice to know it looks halfway decent considering that I tried really really hard not to spend a bunch of money on it.

Email me when you get a chance regarding those house plans. :-)

They say that patience is a virtue, but I'm still not convinced!!!

Your property is wonderful, and I know your new home will be as well. We built a little tiny house on our property with the intent of building a bigger one later. Well, it's seven years later, and we decided we just didn't need a big house payment. Would Vol Fan be proud of us??? Heehee!
