Music Meme

Thanks to VE over at VE's Fantastical Nonsense, I have been tagged. It is supposed to be the top 10 most embarrassing songs that you owned as a teen or pre-teen. But I have always been too cheap to pay real money for music (until now - Thanks iTunes!) so we'll have to go with songs that I know the lyrics to!

I know the lyrics to a lot of cheesy music. I love to sing while I drive. I sing bad but Dixie doesn't seem to mind. So I sing on....

  1. Sunshine On My Shoulders by John Denver - How could I not love this song? John Denver is the "Voice of America" according to something I read somewhere. OK, I just made that up. But how can you pass on a song with lyrics like "Sunshine almost always makes me high"?
  2. Top of The World by The Carpenters - Man, give me a microphone and I will belt out any song by the Carpenters. There is no excuse for this. But poor, poor Karen.....
  3. The Rose by Bette Midler - Never saw the movie but my piano teacher made me learn this song when I was 12. It is all Mrs. Bennett's fault! She wanted to punish me. She never really appreciated the fact that I liked to play piano with my toes.
  4. Muskrat Love by Captain & Tennille -I had a secret crush on the Captain. I cut my hair like Tennille in hopes that he would leave her for me! ".....Nibblin' on bacon, chewin' on cheese...." Gotta love that!
  5. Those Were The Days, My Friend by Mary Hopkins - This song was way before my time. I was 1 when it was released. Somehow it made it's way into my brain - I couldn't begin to tell you how!
  6. Rocky Top by The Osborne Brothers - I graduated from the University of Tennessee. It wuz part of my edjamacation. Ain't that a quirement to gadeate from this here school?
  7. Seasons In The Sun by Terry Jacks - Why? Why? Why do I know this?
  8. The Streak by Ray Stevens - My favorite part "Ethel, git your clothes on!" Doesn't everyone love a song about being nekkid?
  9. Ode to Billy Joe by Bobbie Gentry - My grandparent's farm was near the Tallahatchie River in Mississippi. I was convinced that the bridge near their home was the one Billy Joe McAlister had jumped from. Every time I would pass it, I would try to figure out how he died from such a short jump into such a pitiful excuse for a river.
  10. You Never Even Called Me By My Name by David Allen Coe - We had a great tradition in college. Every so often, we would have "Shit Kickin' Redneck Night". Beer was $3 for all you could drink from 9pm to 11pm at one of our favorite bars. Boy, we could pack it away in those 2 hours! Apparently I was a very butch redneck. One night a couple of guys tried to pick a fight with me. Then they spotted my boobs (They must have been smashed because the girls aren't small by any means!) and they switched tactics - trying to pick me up. They weren't successful!
Hmmm.....who should I tag?? I think I'll leave it up to you. That is if you are brave enough.

How about Tiffany's cover of " I think we're alone now" ?

Yes I was a loser.

Bwahahaha...ok...unfortunately I know all but one of those songs myself.

Sunshine on my shoulders? Damn, without spf 9000 I'm sure I'll get a cancerous mole there now.

Top of the World? That would be Mt. Everest and a bit too cold for me. How about the bottom of the world, it's a nice balmy 85 in Death Valley right now.

The Rose...run away, run away! I'm embarrassed for you...

Muskrat Love - Bwahahahaha... "Sammy's so skinny". Yeah...HE'S A RAT! Ok, I admit it; I had a rate song on my list too.

Those were the Days. If we're talking about high school being those days, yeah, I'm glad they DID end!

Rocky Top? I have no idea. Slyllvester Stallone hats?

Seasons in the Sun. This could be one of the most ingeniously irritating earworms ever conceived. Don't blame yourself, everyone is to blame...

The Streak. It was funny...the first couple of times. Imagine having to play that over and over again?

Ode to Billy Joe - Ha ha. Listen to that, I couldn't WAIT for him to jump...

...Never Even Called Me By My Name...wait, you have boobs? You never told me that. Want my phone number? ha ha

Great, embarrassing list!

Those are all great songs...they really take me back in time. I love music and it was nice to be reminded of some of those songs that yeah, they might be kinda dorky(now) but hey there still catchy tunes. Now you have me thinking about the good ole days!

These are awesome. I'm embarrassed to admit I know all these too - and used to like most of them. And if I could make one of those "embarrassed" smiley face emoticon thingys I would right now.
