99 Things

It's long, people. So save up a little time....

I stole this from Alan over at Round World Through Square Glasses. You are supposed to put the things that you have done in bold. I have also put the things I want to do in red! Scratch that. The things I want to do are in black - that red really hurt my eyes!

1. Started your own blog - Duh!

2. Slept under the stars - I love camping!!
3. Played in a band - Lasted about 2 months on the french horn in 5th grade - does that count?

4. Visited Hawaii
5. Watched a meteor shower - The Perseids and Leonids are always on my annual to-do list.

6. Given more than you can afford to charity - We've given more than I felt we could afford but apparently we could afford it because we never went hungry. Or maybe we were rewarded for trusting!

7. Been to Disneyland - Does Disney World count??

8. Climbed a mountain - Clingmans Dome, highest point in TN - Mountain climbing that involves having an ice ax or oxygen, count me out!

9. Held a praying mantis

10. Sang a solo - I even went to state competition!!

11. Bungee jumped

12. Visited Paris

13. Watched a lightning storm at sea - I would also love to watch one in the desert.

14. Taught yourself an art from scratch - I am probably the least artistic person in the world!

15. Adopted a child - Does being adopted count??

16. Had food poisoning - And I cannot eat fish to this day. Damn that place on Boston Harbor!
17. Walked to the top of the Statue of Liberty

18. Grown your own vegetables - Vol Fan and I used to have a huge garden. That is is one of the things I miss about being on the road. I really enjoy canning vegetables!

19. Seen the Mona Lisa in France

20. Slept on an overnight train - Never really thought about it but that would be really cool

21. Had a pillow fight - Having as many cousins as I do, this one was impossible to avoid. We even split the seams of a feather pillow once!

22. Hitch hiked - While sneaking to Nashville with a friend, my car overheated on the interstate. We actually got in and rode with a truck driver to the next exit. OMG, I can't believe we were that stupid!!

23. Taken a sick day when you’re not ill - From work, school, life, whatever - I have taken it.

24. Built a snow fort - Not enough snow in these parts. And I would like to stay in an ice hotel!

25. Held a lamb - Do newly born puppies count?

26. Gone skinny dipping - This is how I convinced Vol Fan that once we build, we need a pool. Nekkid is the best way to swim!
27. Run a Marathon - Does a triathlon count? What if I finished dead last?

28. Ridden in a gondola in Venice

29. Seen a total eclipse - Solar and lunar - And my calendar is set for July 22 of this year!!

30. Watched a sunrise or sunset - And I was scheduled to go photograph the moonrise on Saturday but it rained:(

31. Hit a home run - In Wii Baseball!

32. Been on a cruise - At fifteen I went to Cancun and Cozumel. Did you know that there really aren't a lot of rules as far as drinking age at sea? Works out pretty good when the adults you are with are more interested in each other so their cabin was on one end and our cabins were on the other end! We did get kicked out of the casino but only after winning $100 at roulette.

33. Seen Niagara Falls in person - twice! Once in summer and once in the dead of winter.

34. Visited the birthplace of your ancestors - Yep, my Dad is from New York and my Mom is from Mississippi! Oh, you meant further back than that? Yep, my grandparents are from New York and Mississippi!

35. Seen an Amish community - Holmes County, OH

36. Taught yourself a new language - French. Well, maybe I didn't teach myself. Maybe Mrs. Habel had something to do with it!

37. Had enough money to be truly satisfied - Is this really possible?

38. Seen the Leaning Tower of Pisa in person

39. Gone rock climbing - If you mean with ropes and clips and stuff, then no. But if you mean bouldering, then yes.

40. Seen Michelangelo’s David - And I've always wanted to take very irreverent photos!

41. Sung karaoke - Babies were crying, dogs were howling...
42. Seen Old Faithful geyser erupt - I did watch via their streaming webcam

43. Bought a stranger a meal at a restaurant

44. Visited Africa - Already have this trip planned!

45. Walked on a beach by moonlight - And we won't talk about what else happened on that beach!!

46. Been transported by ambulance - And I hope to avoid this for a very long time!

47. Had your portrait painted

48. Gone deep sea fishing - 3 times!

49. Seen the Sistine Chapel in person

50. Been to the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris

51. Gone scuba diving or snorkeling - For our anniversary in 2007 at Biscayne National Park

52. Kissed in the rain - Yep, an anniversary camping trip in the Smokies. Rained all weekend!

53. Played in the mud - One of my favorite things as a kid.

54. Gone to a drive-in theater - The drive-in was THE place to be on summer Sunday nights when I was a teen. We would load the trunk full of people to sneak them in! I have even been to a XXX drive-in!

55. Been in a movie - Do my Dad's home movies count?

56. Visited the Great Wall of China

57. Started a business - Well, not me but Vol Fan. It was really scary to step off of the employment train!

58. Taken a martial arts class

59. Visited Russia

60. Served at a soup kitchen

61. Sold Girl Scout Cookies - Nope, flunked out of the Brownies after about 2 weeks!

62. Gone whale watching - Already have this trip planned!

63. Got flowers for no reason - And anonoumously! I never did learn who sent them.

68. Flown in a helicopter - I was wearing a skirt and yes, that skirt flew up over my head as I was getting on!

69. Saved a favorite childhood toy - Still have my bear that I got for my first birthday

70. Visited the Lincoln Memorial - I was 7. I don't remember it at all.

71. Eaten Caviar - It was very salty.

72. Pieced a quilt - I don't even sew buttons back on.

73. Stood in Times Square - I will do this on New Year's Eve. Some day.

74. Toured the Everglades - By bicycle. Thus the Everglades Incident of 2006.

75. Been fired from a job - I really sucked at selling jewelry.

76. Seen the Changing of the Guards in London
77. Broken a bone - Don't want to, either!

78. Been on a speeding motorcycle - And without a helmet. Damn, I was stupid!

79. Seen the Grand Canyon in person - I am hoping to do this sometime this year.

80. Published a book - Does self-publish count? I did a genealogy book once. Sold about 50 copies of it.

81. Visited the Vatican

82. Bought a brand new car - Love my CR-V

83. Walked in Jerusalem - Got a postcard from my grandparent's while they were there.

84. Had your picture in the newspaper - Front page, no less. In high school, I worked for one period a day in the office. The guy from the local newspaper was doing a story about the frigid temperatures and asked if we (me and the other office worker) would go outside and look cold. And we did!

85. Kissed a stranger at midnight on New Year’s Eve - Nashville, 1986. And my date was REALLY pissed.

86. Visited the White House - Again, I was 7. And I don't remember a thing.

87. Killed and prepared an animal for eating - I would have to be really, REALLY hungry!

88. Had chickenpox - 1st grade

89. Saved someone’s life - Possibly mine and lots of others. I stopped drinking and driving! Yes, I used to be a real IDIOT!
90. Sat on a jury - I got called up once. But didn't get seated.

91. Met someone famous - I saw Conway Twitty once in the airport. 'Vol Fan met Wayne Huizenga, the owner of the Miami Dolphins. Dixie's mom, Hayley, jumped on Greg Norman, leaving muddy paw prints on his pants.

92. Joined a book club

93. Lost a loved one - Too many!
94. Had a baby - 27 years of unprotected sex - Doesn't look like this one is going to happen!?! And you can do the math since most of you know that I am 41. Again, I used to be a real IDIOT!!
95. Seen the Alamo in person - I plan on swinging by San Antonio in October after my bike ride.

96. Swam in the Great Salt Lake - I've heard it really stinks.

97. Been involved in a law suit - Vol Fan got sued for punching a guy and breaking his jaw. Never mind that the guy was robbing the store where Vol Fan worked and he pulled a knife when Vol Fan tried to detain him for the police.

98. Owned a cell phone - And I can't seem to answer it before it stops ringing!

99. Been stung by a bee - I was stung twice by a bumble bee, right between the eyes. My eyes were bruised and swollen. I looked like I had been beaten. Vol Fan had way too much fun with this. For example, while at Wal-Mart or the grocery store, he would say things loud enough that people would turn and look. Of course, they would see my face and assume that he had beaten the crap out of me. He got the biggest kick out of the look on their faces. He is bad. Very, very bad. He's lucky no one beat the crap out of him!

Yes, the bee sting in between the eyes is bad...him pretending abuse is harsh. Funny, but harsh.

What a great list of things you have done and still would like to do. Your husband sounds like quite the stinker! But, that does make life kinda fun for you.
When are you going to Africa? That would be incredible!

That's one long meme or whatever it's called. Probably just a list, right?

What an exciting life so far! And, of course you still have your bike ride in Austin to add to that list. AND your amazing fundraising skills!

Wait a minute! When are you doing a bike ride in Austin? Do you need an albatross to go with you? I'm your girl... And I go there 5 or 6 times per year. More if I have reason. (hint hint!)

Loved all the answers. I feel like I now know you way better than I ever wanted to, lol. Just kidding.

No. 26 ... we put in a pool a year and a half ago ... no question about the best way to swim!

Okay, I'll go ahead & mark my calendar! Also, I usually meet up with KK & SalGal of Midlife Gals. Now, we also have Allison of Women In Bloom who is also in A-Town & friends w/ KK & SalGal, and now Me. So, you'll have plenty of us to cheer you on.

One of my dear friends moved to A-Town after her divorce & she does the Susan B. Komen Triathalon every year, so I usually go down and volunteer for that too. It's a great cause & tons of fun.

I lost both of my in-laws to cancer within 7 months of one another around ten years ago, so I've always been a staunch fund-raiser for cancer....

Now you know how I feel about these... ;)

But it looks roughly like I have 16 left to do from the list.

The concentration camp stopped me dead in my tracks. Living in Germany, I saw most of them. Definitely a must for everyone. Makes a person rethink EVERYTHING!

Nice list though, I may have to come back to this and start checking them off. (maybe I will just copy it now and get started!!!)
