Not From Around Here

Last week, I went to Wal-Mart.  (Not my favorite place.  The stores are a mess.  The shelves aren't stocked.  And around here, Target isn't any better.  But that's a rant for another day.)  So off I went on my shopping adventure.

While there, I decided to pick up a couple of packages of spaghetti noodles.  As I was getting the box, I knocked 3 boxes of the next brand of noodles on the floor.  So I did what I thought every human being in the world would do.  I bent down and picked them up, placing them back on the shelf.

As I turned back to my cart, I noticed a Wal-Mart employee headed down the aisle.  She said, "I can't believe you did that!"

What?  Were you talking to me?  Surely I'm not the only person who has knocked things off of the shelves.  You may not keep thing stocked but when you do, they are right on the edge.  Who could help but knock things off?

I didn't say these things but obviously my confusion registered on my face.

So she said, "I can't believe you picked those up.  In all the time I have worked here, I have never seen anyone pick something up that they knocked down."

So I smiled and said, "That's just the way my mama raised me."

Then she laughed and said, "You're not from around here, are you."

No, ma'am.  I'm not.  I'm still not sure if she knew I wasn't from around here from my accent or from the fact that I picked up that spaghetti...

Isn't that sad????? Where are manners? Do you think that people in CA are really like that ??? I know that there are huge problems in CA --but sure there are people with manners... (Maybe they don't go to Walmart... ha)

Your Mama would be proud of you, Woody.
Hugs,
Betsy

Isn't that a sad commentary on our country! I'm assuming she noticed your kindness and not your accent!

why don't people teach their kids manners out there? And show some good behavior themselves?

I just stumbled upon your blog, from The Jason Show, and this post gave me a hearty laugh at the end of a dreary day here on the Island. Thanks!

"That's the way my mama raised me." And that mama would be so proud of you and the beautiful woman that you are.

It really is sad that people have forgotten their manners. When I was at the grocery store recently I smiled at this woman that was putting out new produce in their bins and she thanked me for smiling at her! I was like, What?
