Water

We've all heard about how important water is.  How we all need to conserve.  Yadda, yadda, yadda.

But the place that I come from is surrounded by water.  Three lakes are within a 15 mile radius of my home.  It rains.  Regularly.  Sure, summer can have dry times.  But for the most part, water is a very common thing.

And then I moved to California.  Sure I'm within a mile of the Pacific Ocean but salt water doesn't count.  You know the old saying, 'It never rains in California'.  Well, it isn't just an old saying.  It really never rains here.

But it rained on Monday.  The first time in three months.  And I use the word 'rain' very generously.  It never quite got beyond a drizzle.  I thought my #1 weatherman, Dallas Raines, was going to have an aneurism.  He was BEYOND excited about the rain!

Anyway...By being here, I have become very aware as to just how valuable water is.  It was especially apparent when we passed the 'lake' on the way to Sequoia National Park.  I know I talked about it in that post.  But here it is, two weeks later and I still can't believe the difference in that lake.

So I went searching through my pictures to try and find a 'before' picture.  As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.  These pictures were taken from pretty close to the same spot.

Before (taken June 2010):
After (taken September 2010):
I still can't get over the fact that so much water was used over the course of three months.

Thanks for sharing... Have a great weekend.

It's been forever since I last washed the Suburban... looks like it just crawled out of the desert or something! How are your water bills? Ours is about as high as our electric bills were in Texas! Amazing the differences.
