Strangely Thankful

Last week as Vol Fan and I returned from Murfreesboro, we passed by the home of a friend of mine from high school.  There were several emergency vehicles parked in the street.  I couldn't really tell if they were at her house or at her neighbor's house.  Once at home, I sent her a Facebook message asking if everything was OK.  I had a sinking feeling when I never got a reply.

Later that evening, a mutual friend posted on Facebook asking for prayers for a friend.  My heart sank.  I knew those emergency vehicles were at her house and something terrible had happened.  I sent a message to the mutual friend and asked if my guess was correct.  Sadly, it was.

Her 13 year old daughter had committed suicide.  Rumor says that she was distraught because of bullying at school.  I don't know what happened.  All I know is that parents have lost a child.  Their world is forever changed.

When I woke to the rain this morning, I thought of them - thinking what a miserable day to have to deal with such things as visitation and funeral homes.  Then I remembered how I felt when I lost my Mom.

Her funeral was on a picture perfect spring day.  Warm.  Sunny.  Perfect.  And it pissed me off!  That anger at the weather is the one detail of that day that I can remember like it was yesterday.  I felt like the universe was mocking my sadness and my pain.  So today even though my heart breaks, I'm strangely thankful for the rain.

Oh how sad... The bullying just continues to get worse around our country. WHY can't something be done? Kids can be so cruel to other kids... Wonder sometimes what kind of kids we are raising here in our country these days--since this problem has gotten worse and worse???? (I'm not talking about ALL kids of course ---but there are many who are definitely on the wrong path...)

So sorry for your friend and the family.. What a horrible thing for them.

It's raining cats and dogs here too... I guess I'd better be happy we have it rather than to complain about it.

Hugs,
Betsy

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's loss. I can't imagine what it must be like to lose a child. This country just has to come to grips with bullying.
