Kleer-Vu Lunchroom

On my way to the periodontist's office, I passed this awesome looking dive in Murfreesboro.  The building looked as if it had been there forever.  Located in not the nicest part of town.  One of those places that I love to try!

Thankfully, my final visit to the periodontist (and my release to eat something other than soft foods!!) coincided with lunch.  So I decided to give it a try.  And boy, am I glad I did!

As I walked up to the building, the aroma immediately transported me to my childhood.  It was summer - hot, humid.  I was standing in bare feet on my Gramma's front porch in northeast Mississippi.  The cool concrete welcome on a hot summer day.

Sounds danced around me.  A bumble bee lazily buzzed the delicate red flowers of the cypress vine that climbed the porch columns.  My uncles laughing as they gathered with my Grampa under the shade tree in the front yard - tall tales about fishing being told.  The screech of the screen door as it opened and the slam as it closed.  The chatter and clanging of pans from the kitchen as my Gramma and my aunts prepared supper.

The smell coming from the kitchen was magical.  When it was time to eat, we would all jockey for position in line.  With a family as large as ours, line position was a VERY important thing when it came to meals.  All the food would be spread across the deep freeze in bowls of every shape and size.

The Kleer-Vu is the closest I've had to my Gramma's cooking since she passed in 1972.  The only thing missing was the screech of that screen door.

OH how neat... Don't you just love those kinds of places to eat... The little local 'down home type country places' are fantastic --with delicious food... Bet you'll be going back there again --and take VolFan with you!!!!!

Made me hungry--and brought back lots of memories.
Hugs,
Betsy
