Plannin' a Trip - WooHoo!!

I love my Southwest credit card! Vol Fan and I use it for everything. Vol Fan uses it a lot for work.

And because of all this use, we have some free plane tickets!! I told Vol Fan that we needed to "jet off" somewhere for our anniversary in May.

And he said, "Plan it!" Can you believe it? He never says "Plan it". It's always "We'll have to wait and see how the job is going" or something. And then nothing is planned. And so we don't go!

But not this time! He is going to take off from work so we are looking at a 4 day trip.

Oh, the choices! Anywhere Southwest flies! New York City, San Francisco, San Diego......

But we have decided to mark off something that is on both of our life lists. We are going to visit the Grand Canyon!

I am a trip planner extraordinaire. Tell me where you want to go and the type of things you like to do and I can plan one fantastic trip!!

So I am busy researching. Making reservations. Deciding which hikes we will have time (and fitness!) for. Mapping out a route. Reading about photography tips......

Anyone have any tips?

How exciting! Planning this will be so much fun for you. I look forward to hearing more about those plans and then getting to see pictures when you get back.

The only tip I have is to have a blast!

My TIP? Book it before he changes his mind or something comes up!!!
I have only been there one time and it was only for a few hours.
I DO love Trip Advisor.com though. It has reviews from regular folks on hotels, sights, etc...I use them all the time and I even review hotels we have been to!!
good luck!!

I have never been west of the Mississippi, so I can not be of much help. It does sound like a lot of fun and I can not wait to travel through you vicariously.

Ive never been, but if that new glass skywalk thing is open now (and I think it is) bring us back pictures!

Ive also never flown Southwest, is it really like it looked in "Airline"?

Oh Woody... This is on our list also. We are SO anxious to go there.. You can go first and then tell us what to do and where to go.. You'll love it.

Are you flying into Vegas? My son who is there says that there are tons of great deals there also right now.. Check it out if you have an extra day or so.

Hugs,
Betsy

Take your camera, extra clean underwear, and give yourself enough time at each location to really "see" the beauty that is there. Savor it, and take a million pictures!

I am so happy for you! Oh, make sure you go skinny dipping at least once! ENJOY!

Woody...yeah for you and Vol fan!!!!!
I went to the Grand Canyon once. It was beautiful. I didn't enjoy it very much, though. TrailerParkKen had talked me into riding the Harley from where we live in WV all the way to the Grand Canyon. My butt was soooo sore that all I could think about was how much energy it would take to push TPK over the edge. I would love to go back there...in a car, plane, bus....anything but a motorcyle.

My tip...per my post today...is to not drive off the side of the canyon when there.

Strangely enough I've never been there. I've been to over 40 countries and 30 states too. Weird. I'm like you though...I plan everything myself. We'll be on a caribbean cruise in April that I'm just finishing up planning on right now. I go at least one new place in the world every year. Yeah travel...

I love hearing those wonderful three words from hubby. "Make the reservations." I always do so as quickly as possible for fear that he'll change his mind.

Ohmahgah, ohmahgah, ohmahgah! I LOVE trips! Especially spontaneous, FREE ones! Yeeeeooow!

I went to the Grand Canyon once. I think I was 13. I worried the entire time the dry air would take the curl out of my hair and so I Aussie Sprunch Sprayed the LIFE out of it. (Not that it needed anymore.)

So um ... SSG doesn't have tips for the Grand Canyon but ohmahgah if you went to San Diego?! I could tell you where all the BEST FOOD is and amazing beaches ... and now please excuse SSG while she goes and cries.

I did the Grand Canyon in a motorhome and it was fabulous. I wonder where you would fly into? No matter what, there are several interesting areas. In the same vicinity are the Mesa Verde cliff dwellings. Now I'm getting excited about going back.

There's a great shuttle bus system at the Grand Canyon so you can get off at one stop, enjoy the view, get on the next bus, hike for awhile, get on another, and you don't have to worry about parking or anything. There are even some places where you can get out and hike to the next bus stop to see the view at a more leisurely pace. So take comfy shoes, a good backpack, lots of water and snacks, and you can't go wrong!
