After leisurely rolling out of the sleeping bag at 9 or 9:30, our day began in earnest. Well, not exactly in earnest.
The Manager was set to arrive around noon. I told her I would meet her in day parking and help her haul her crap to the campsite. So I hung around camp - tweaking our set up. Grilled a burger. Just a big bunch of nothing.
I'll let you come to your own conclusions as to what was occupying Crafty's morning.
Noon came and went. Still no Manager. She was running a little late so I decided to head to Centeroo to listen to some music and wait for her call.
So I headed to listen to Vieux Farka Toure, who is a singer and guitarist from Mali. He was awesome - a great mix of rock, reggae, and blues. Halfway through the show, The Manager called and she had made it in. So I headed to meet her.
After getting her settled at camp, we returned to Centeroo just in time to catch King Sunny Ade and the African Beats. He is from Nigeria and performs juju music. I couldn't understand a word that was said - I really don't think he was singing in my language! But he was incredible - rhythms that force you to move!!
Next up was one of the shows that I was not going to miss - Lucinda Williams. And she did not disappoint. Her raspy voice coupled with acoustic guitar and just on the edge of raunchy lyrics - perfect!!
This guy was 'performing' with his butterfly wings during the entire show. It was mesmerizing.
Next we tried to make our way into the crowd for the Beastie Boys. But chose the wrong route and ended up going against the flow of traffic. Which is really, really bad! So we chose to skip them and head over to Which Stage to wait for David Byrne. Which is just as well because I heard The Beastie Boys were struggling - they aren't 20 years old anymore - and I heard that they totally crashed and burned during the final song. Like so bad that they apologized!
While trying to relocate all of our group, we realized the true practicality of my Bonnaroo gift. I ordered these glasses for everyone. It really helped trying to find people in the dark.
David Byrne put on a really good show. Doing some of his solo work and mixing it in with hits from Talking Heads. I was up bustin' a move. As you can see from the pic, I had perfect form for the 'lawnmower'move! Don't ask me what was up with that tongue!
After that show, Home Brew and Crafty headed back to camp while Blazer headed to the beer tent to work her shift. She is the only smart one in the bunch - she works a shift in the beer tent and gets her ticket for free!! The rest of us idiots paid!!
But on the way, we ran into the Tele-tubbies. Sadly, we learned that purple Tele-tubby landed in the medical tent later that night. Too much Tele-tubbying!!
I convinced The Manager to stay for Phish with me. Let's just say she isn't a Phish fan and it took a LOT of convincing. We lasted about halfway through the show. When the song took them into a 30-minute jam, she was done. But I'll tell you THEY WERE AWESOME! And I did get to hear one of my favorites - Possum!
Back at camp, Coke, Doritos, and a Rice Krispy treat rounded out the day!

I'm boring. I know it. Always have been. But, wow, I'm afraid to read more about your trip and learn just how many bands I've never even heard of.
It does sound like fun though :)
Oh wow! If I had known Tele-tubbies were there, I would have gone.
You had a blast, I can tell! :)
Oh wow, what a blast!!! Now I have to go read part 1 to this story since it's been day's since I have been on the computor....off to catch up...glad you had a great time!
What is Crafty doing? Is she making those gooey bubble things that I used to love as a kid????
Love your dancing and your glasses. I am sad about the Beastie boys...always loved them. I was hoping they would stay young, as I aged. :)
There is one teletubbie missing...I am concerned!!!
You guessed it, Suz! That is exactly what she is doing.
We were concerned about the missing Tele-tubby as well. As best we could tell (since the Tele-tubbies don't speak!), La-La had met with an unfortunate end. The rest of the group was drowning their sorrows!
All of this falls in my "too much fun" category!
I can tell you had the time of your life!!! The way you tell it is great and just makes me want to go next year!
Would you mind sending me the link so I can order some of those glasses?? UmK, Thanks!!
I'm getting the impression that there may be a group from VA heading out to Bonnaroo next year....:) Bloggers Unite at Bonnaroo?? Sounds like trouble...
BHE - Windy City Novelties! They also have glow in the dark body paint. Umm, yeah, that didn't work out so good!!
I'm so out of it musically.
However I love the pic of you getting your groove on! Delightful!
David Burne and Phish? Nice choices! I'm officially jealous.
Awesome! Too bad the Beasties sucked...but ya got to see David Byrne instead! So that is cool...
